Exfoliation, Your Skincare Magic!!

A good number of people underestimate the importance of exfoliating the skin. 95% of individuals who have skin problems DO NOT exfoliate their skin. As a matter of fact, some individuals have no idea of what exfoliation means. Growth is a constant factor in the lives of people and as we grow, the skin cells change from old to new. The removal of these old skin cells from the skin is what is referred to as Exfoliation.

I was once like some of you, seeing skincare routines which didn’t involve only washing and moisturizing as big and unnecessary things to do. I felt if I washed my face and body regularly and moisturised it well enough I was good to go, forgetting that my skin is an organ that needs to be taken care of on different levels and in different ways. I will be sharing my personal story with you.

It was a hot sunny day, I had a full makeup on all day and by about 5pm in the evening my face looked muddy and very oily – I have a super oily face. I got my facial wipes and began wiping my face. I used about 4 pieces of facial wipes because my makeup was really heavy and the sun had smeared everything. After wiping my face ʽproperlyʼ, I noticed the skin at the corner of my nose seemed so rough and somehow scary, I reached out to it with my pinkie finger using the nail to scratch the area. I checked my nail out and realised there were brown substances – like skin that were soft/sticky to feel. It wasn’t makeup, they were dead skin cells.

Asides the presence of dead skin cells on the skin, you need to exfoliate in order to clear your skin by removing the top-most layers of the skin, so your moisturizer can be easily absorbed into the skin. In the act of stepping out of your house to carry out your daily activities, lots of particles get to settle on your skin and most times, washing isn’t enough. If you are the kind person who doesn’t exfoliate regularly, your moisturizer, body serum, body butter, bath gels and other skincare products will have a difficult time getting absorbed into your skin, rendering these skincare products useless.

Conclusion

Exfoliation is a must–do if you want to have a beautiful glowing skin. It is a must-do if you want to see the effects of skincare products on your skin. Overtime, there will be posts about the skincare benefits, methods and plants used in exfoliation. STAY TUNED!!
